When it comes to drinks, I prefer the flavored ones: make it juice, tea, even energy drinks. But soft drinks are my favorite. And yes, I like soft drinks better than water. I think half of my body cells float in Coke (or were killed in it). I always have this uncontrollable craving for this strong and addictively tasty drink (Ooh the ice cold one!) regardless of what's actually inside the bottle or can. There were nights, probably near midnight, when I actually went out of the dormitory just to buy a can of Coke. My friends always tell me to quit my habit, but I just can't/don't want to.
I took my chemistry courses during my first year in college ( I think I failed one, hehe), and I am fully aware how toxic soft drinks are. The acidity of sofd rinks ranges from pH 2-3; earth speak: TOO ACIDIC! Drinking a bottle of coke is like cleaning your toilet with a bottle of vinegar. We drink the stuff that is effectively a great household cleaner. Here's part of an email about the cleansing powers of softdrinks:
Subject: FW: FW: Coke & Pepsi
For those of you who love Coke/Pepsi…
Just when you thought you knew everything….To clean a toilet:
Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl. Let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers:
Rub the bumper with a crumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.To clean corrosion from car battery terminals:
Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion. To loosen a rusted bolt:
Applying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes. To bake a moist ham:
Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan; Wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy. To remove grease from clothes:
Empty a can of Coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.
I heard something about the experiment done probably years ago which tried to demonstrate how hazardous to health softdrinks can be. Parts of a human bone and teeth were immeresed in coke and they were found to be dissolved after the period of observation. A student in Delhi University died after drinking 8 bottles of soft drinks during the competition called " WHO CAN DRINK THE MOST COKE" because of too much carbon dioxide accumulated in his blood. Soft drinks do not have nutritional value; they are only sugars, preservatives and colorings. My NASC 6 professor called them empty caloric drinks.
Some people think that if they put more ice, that would lower level of acid in soft drinks. But from what I've learned, adding water (ice is beasically water) does not change the concentration of acids in liquids– the pH will still be the same. I've done some expriments in the lab myself, promise.
So what do we get from drinking soft drinks?
Short-term satisfaction and future diseases!
Okay, I'm ending this post. I'll be eating my breakfast and drink coke afterwards.
