Preventing/Repairing the Damage

From the start, friends and family alike have been warning me about the dangers of using a credit card - that is, it’s very tempting to rely too much on it. Spending money that you have not earned yet seems appealing but it also opens doors to financial difficulty later on.

At first, it’s using the card to purchase basic neccessities, like in doing groceries and to buy clothes and other important stuff. Then, you’ll move on to buying luxury items. For me, I splurged on books, techie stuff and gadgets, sports equipments, and other things that are more on the “want” category than “need.” It reached a point where I was already searching for a credit repair company because I’ve maxed out the credit limit and I’m not able to pay the bills promptly. Now, it’s very important to erase bad credit not only because it will affect your financial credentials and eligibility to apply for important loans or even to apply for installment plans on purchases. Most importantly, a bad credit score means a really bad time of paying overdue bills and steep interest rates. If you only pay the minimum amount monthly, it’s like only paying for the interest; your credit doesn’t go anywhere and it may even force you later on to get bank loans just to cover the credit card bill. I tell you, it feels so bad to work so hard every single day and have your hard-earned money go straight to the credit card company. It’s so not worth the thrill of acquiring new things. The point is, do not live beyond your means. Better to save money first before buying anything you don’t really need - if it’s not a matter of life or death. Legal credit repair will cost a lot more so better not get used to “rewarding yourself” all the time. I’m not saying that owning and using a credit card is evil; but you have to know and be diligent about where and when to use it to save yourself from troubles and headaches later.

Professional Employer Organization Benefits

I realized that it has been a while since I last checked my payslip for discrepancies or possible unpaid hours. Considering that our company is not exactly an efficient one on this front, I think I have been doing a great disservice to myself. I often hear colleagues ask for pay adjustments because of errors in the number of hours paid, unpaid overtime hours, unpaid service incentive leaves, and other payroll mistakes. I think we need to get familiar with the concept of PEO here. In several countries like the United States, Sweden, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Russia, PEO Companies are operational and are the preferred business model. A professional employer organization (PEO) provides outsourcing of payroll, workers’ compensation, human resources and employee benefits administration. A PEO acts a co-employer and assumes responsibilities for legal regulations, insurance details, and tax laws, while the parent company remains in charge of its products and/or services. Some also provide Staff Leasing services which can help reduce company costs and liabilities. Small and large corporations may both benefit from the services of a PEO; in turn, the company employees also enjoy expanded and improved benefits.

Now if only my company will enlist such services, then maybe people will encounter less problems with their bimonthly salary and everyone will be happy.

What About Filmmaking?

That’s a question I managed to blurt out to a friend before I managed to stop myself for fear of being laughed at. We were talking about short courses that we want to take up, mostly as a hobby and for leisure, and that’s the first thing that came to my mind. I’ve always been interested in films, although being a certified movie buff does not necessarily mean that I’ll make good on actually making films. I don’t have even have the slightest idea how to transfer an 8mm Film to DVD. That much I know. It requires talent as much as a genuine desire to learn. But how would I know if I have it if I won’t try, right? So we searched for options and it turned out it ain’t cheap. I would have to spend hundreds of dollars to go to a film school where they also offer acting courses and other art forms. Not to mention I’ll definitely have to spend money on equipment and stuff. Man, that sucks. But I really want to learn and so someday when I have the resources, I’ll do it. I just hope it comes before I get to old and lose my enthusiasm.

I’d also like to learn how to do film editing and how they integrate music into scenes. I think it’s really cool and it would be such a fun job to have. Then maybe I’ll learn the process of 8mm Film to DVD transfer and start making little home movies at first. Who knows, I may someday end up either making films or getting into the business of Film Transfer for the pros. It’s free to dream.

On Bringing Forth Life

My friend and I were discussing babies and how cute they are. As with most random discussions, our topic suddenly segued toward a sort of debate on the morality of raising a child as a single parent. Morality maybe a strong word that has wider implication than is intended here; what we were really arguing about is if it is indeed selfish for a woman to undergo artificial insemination when she doesn’t have a husband or partner to raise the child with. I said it depends while my friend said it is selfish. Well, it’s a tricky subject. Of course, it depends on a lot of things and circumstances really have a lot to do with it. On a strictly theoretical sense, I can concur that the motivation may indeed be selfish because obviously it’s the woukd-be mother’s choice. The child wouldn’t have any say on it. But if someone is financially capable and emotionally suitable to bring forth a child in this world, and she wants to love and raise another human being who will enjoy all of what life can offer, then I say what’s got to be wrong with that? Oh, well, to each his own and I do believe we both have a point, or even some good points. In these financially difficult times, however, it may not be a wise thing todo if you’re a single person who is employed and just manages to support yourself.

People will always have different views about building families and raising children. Even in families with both mother and father, many couples observe family planning and some even opts for drastic measures like surgical treatments such as vasectomy or tubal ligation. Some parents want to keep their familysmall while others want to have as many children as they can. The thing is, even if the father has undergone vasectomy in life and then change his mind in the future about the rearing of more children, he has the option to undergo vasectomy reversal. Family planning is sometimes mandated by law in some countries so the practice really differs in different socities and cultures. What we have to realize and remember here, though,is that life is beautiful and every child born into this world is too.
